Wild Discovery

I am down with flu so resting at home for last 1 and a half week. I am reading for my IFRS course along with “India after Gandhi” and a kannada novel called “Mookajjiya kanasu”. Well you might be surprised but I need to read at least 2 books at a time (meaning one after another!!) in order to satisfy my grey cells. Its early hours on 24-feb-2011 and I am still not sleepy. How would I get sleep when I had slept for 12 hours last night plus 2 hours the same afternoon? So I was wondering what to do, I was tired of listening to Harry Potter’s audio book. So I sat in front of my desktop and thought of writing something for my blog. So I remembered some instances of very strange Wild life programs which I am sharing now. 1) Two days ago, I was watching a very strange program on Discovery Wild channel. In this program a group of people were trying to measure the length of a biggest crocodile somewhere in African Jungle. Then this team goes to this dried up river bank and see a flock o...

Reality shows- Part 2

Then there is-- Baby-Care reality show called “Take home Nanny” There’s this nanny who visits families (those who wish to be on television and therefore wants to become “famous”) with babies and kids who apparently are “troubling and pestering” the parents and to find out why children are misbehaving as such. The family undergoes video shoots almost entire day or two (or that’s what the nanny says) and the baby seems not at all disturbed by these intruders (camera men I mean). Nanny observes the family and their everyday routine for one day or that’s what they make it look like- I mean if there is/are new guest/s at home any toddler wants to get to know them and they would be very enthusiastic. But in this program, the toddler does not seem to be bothered by the nanny at all. Rather it looks like the toddlers have not at all noticed nanny. This is very strange. I feel this is not a job of one day but several days. Nanny should have been visiting them quite oft...

Reality shows- Part 1

Fortunately or unfortunately I am missing the “opportunity” of watching the reality shows on Indian television (goodness there are so many channels!!). But I am not able to avoid it on the television here in Czech Republic. We have a cable connection to watch all the American and UK channels along with Czech channels. Four out of five programs on US channels are reality shows especially on channels such as “travel and Living (I am wondering where we Indians got the inspiration from?? :)) There are few such programs which are about families and how they lead their lives in their home and their behaviour when they go are out. Let me now write about family reality shows: Scene: Family goes to a park. Then husband or wife tells the camera (in order to make it look like they are telling it to the audience) that “we are in a park!!!” hah! What an intelligent statement! Then they discuss about how their children misbehaved in the park (what else do you expect from a ki...

Attention Span, what's that??!!

Technology has surely made our lives much easier. I surely cannot think of my life without washing machine, vacuum cleaner, DVD player, Mp3 player, Television and of course computers. While we are using washing machines, vacuum cleaners for cleaning purposes, appliances like Television, MP3 players, DVD players and of course computers are used for recreation, for studying, for news, music, etc. Today, we have so many sources to keep us occupied that sometimes I really can’t choose one among them to entertain me for say 2-3 hours continuously. I will be distracted by these multiple “options” very often. Most of the time, I stick to television and try and spend only few minutes in front of computer for news, blogging, to write to my friends and family and only "limited" time into community networks. Off late, I do not spend too much time into facebook and other community networks. This is because I get distracted by many updates it shows on the “home...

Television mania, lives!

When I was in my teens, my parents used to often tell me “Don’t watch so much television, do something creative, read something, take a walk!” Then I used to feel whatever they are saying is just talk and I used to continue with my TV watching habit in an uncaring way, thinking “big deal”. I had a feeling then, that our parents’ generation used to think that television is spoiling their children. But life has moved on, hasn't it? Even our parents were watching along with us. They however never used to stop saying “read, do something creative, take a walk” and they themselves used to sit in front of television. Actually I am not in a mood now to point fingers at their mistakes. Of course, I succeeded in finishing my education even though I watched television and yet had time left over after studying, not only to watch television but also for things like practicing music, cooking, going out for movies and playing badminton. Looking back, I still feel that watching television was not...
