We in India are very keen on celebrating many Anniversaries such as Independence Day, Republic day and so on. But we are not trying to know the actual history behind these important days. During these days, you hear “patriotic” shouts and screams from “aam admi” but try asking one among them what the importance of Republic day is for instance, they just babble. On the other side, our education system is systematically and effectively stopping the students in knowing the history of our own country- the usual logic is: can our history provide us jobs? My answer is: you don’t have to study your history, if you know that’s enough. There is a saying “If you don’t know your history, it is bound to repeat”. So the only way to know our history and also letting our future generation know our history is by reading it and letting the children read them too- of course, those “busy” souls can read them in their free time. So we decided to go on hiking to one of the famous mountain ranges in Czech Republic called Beskydy. This particular village is called Horni (Upper) Lomna. We stayed in a local lodge where the owners of the Lodge celebrated Christmas with few of their closest customers and friends. We were fortunate enough to be considered one among them during that occasion. There we met a couple; the Lady a folklorist called Marta Gelnarova and the Gentleman, her present husband who was a former Slovak Pilot. This lady is half Polish and Half Czech and born in 1942. ರಮ್ಯ ಚೈತ್ರ ಕಾಲ??? ವಸಂತ-ಚೈತ್ರ ಮಾಸದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಎಂಥೆಂತ ಕವನಗಳಿವೆ, ಚಿತ್ರಗೀತೆಗಳೂ ಇವೆ. ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿನ (ಭಾರತ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ) ಚಳಿಗಾಲವು Europeನಲ್ಲಿನ ಚಳಿಗಾಲದಂತಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೂ, ಚಳಿಗಾಲವು ಮುಗಿದು ವಸಂತ ಋತು ಶುರುವಾಗೋ ಸಮಯವು ಬಹಳ ರಮಣೀಯವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತಿದೆ. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ೮೦-೯೦ರ ದಶಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿ-ಬೆಳೆದ ನಾನು ಈ ಮಾತು ಎಷ್ಟು ನಿಜವೆಂದು ಬಹಳ ಯೋಚಿಸಿದ್ದುಂಟು. ೧೯೫೦-೧೯೭೦ರ ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಲನ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಸಂತ ಋತುವಿನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹಾಡಿದ್ದೂ ಹಾಡಿದ್ದೆ. ನಿಜ ಅಂದಿನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ವಸಂತ ಋತುವು ಬಹಳ ರಮಣೀಯವಾಗಿತ್ತೋ ಏನೋ. ಆದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿನ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಇದರ ಕಂಪನ್ನು ಅನುಭವಿಸುವ ಅವಕಾಶವೇ ಸಿಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಪಾಪ! ಮಲೆನಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ರಮಣೀಯತೆ ಇನ್ನು ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಉಳಿದಿದೆ ಎಂದರೆ ತಪ್ಪಾಗದು. ಹೋದ್ವರ್ಶ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಭೇಟೆನೀಡಿದ್ದಾಗ, ಕೊಡಗಿನ ಸೊಬಗನ್ನು ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಆಸ್ವಾಧಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ನಿಶ್ಚಯಿಸಿದೆವು. ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಸುಂಟಿಕೊಪ್ಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು guest houseನಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳಿದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೆವು. ಈ ಜಾಗದ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ coffee estateಗಳು, ಬಹಳ ರಮಣೀವವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆದ್ರೆ Europeನಲ್ಲಿ ವಸಂತ ಕಾಲವೆಂದರೆ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಮೆರವಣಿಗೆಯೇ ಶುರುವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ Easter ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಚಳಿಗಾಲದ ಅಂತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಹಾಗು ವಸಂತಮಾಸದ ಆರಂಭವನ್ನು ಬಹಳ ಅದ್ಧೂರಿಯಿಂದ ಆಚಿರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಚಿಳಿಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೊರಗಿ ಸೊರಗಿ ವರ್ಷದ ಹೊಸ ಋತುವಿಗಾಗಿ ಕ...
