A rare incident with picture of Vyjayanthimala

In 2006, the winter in Czech Republic was very mild. So we decided to go on hiking to one of the famous mountain ranges in Czech Republic called Beskydy. This particular village is called Horni (Upper) Lomna.










We stayed in a local lodge where the owners of the Lodge celebrated Christmas with few of their closest customers and friends. We were fortunate enough to be considered one among them during that occasion.






There we met a couple; the Lady a folklorist called Marta Gelnarova and the Gentleman, her present husband who was a former Slovak Pilot.
This lady is half Polish and Half Czech and born in 1942. We introduced ourselves and started our dinner. The traditional Christmas food of Czech Republic is Carp fish.

Then we came to know that this Lady had met Vyjayanthimala in 1958 during folklore festival in Czech Republic. She promised us that she will scan the picture with Vyjayanthimala and send it via email.

The same night was Christmas Eve and we happened to join the Christmas celebrations where some of the villagers performed the play of the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. It was snowing slightly and not very cold.

I would like to write more about this Lady Marta. She and her 3 sisters had a band and they sang Czech, Slovak and Polish Folk songs. She and one more sister are still continuing this tradition even now.

In this photo with Vyjayanthimala, you can see 4 sisters and this Lady Marta standing next to Vijayanthi to the left (the one who is not looking at the camera). This lady was explaining us how beautiful Vijayanthi mala was. :-)




Marta’s ex husband Gelnar was probably one of the most significant post war Folklorist in all of Moravia and Silesia.

We were indeed fortunate enough to meet her. She is still in contact with us.

    the staple food of Czech Republic is pig.. Pork, bacon, ham and ofcourse beef. :) I do not think you will like to know about this food :)

Birthday cravings
