Bollywood movies with "sanskaar"

The heat was unbearable, even in a hotel room which was with an air cooler. My mood was not getting any better. So I decided to watch a movie from Youtube, any movie that is.
So I chose "Vivah".
Whah! and what movie it is!! A movie with 95% of characters are full of "sanskaar" made out of pure desi ghee from desi gaay [did not want to use the word 'cow' for obvious 'sacred' reasons!!].
Typical bollywood story. (What was I thinking?? and how naive of me to expect anything else??)
Parents looks out for alliances for their children (after all, Indian parents are broadminded in some ways!!). The story of this movie is no different, of course!
A very "good looking" and fair girl (being "fair skinned" is a MUST, because good and moral groom families are so broadminded that they only ask for fair skinned girl and absolutely "NO DOWRY") and what more? they also they expect the girls to be with "very good sanskaar".
"Good sanskaar" meaning, girls who spends most of her time in pooja [prayer] room and sings bhajans (mostly krishna bhajans, I wonder why??!) most of the time and always seeks elders blessings by falling to their feet. [ahem!]
And then, the boy always will be very open (he even talks about his previous girls friends- this is to prove that he is trustworthy I suppose!!) and also starts to shy in front of the girl all the time.
... and then the girl never would have had any crush on any boy at all till then (poor girl how could she if she spends most of her time in the pooja room? and that [spending time in pooja room] is >the< definition of "sanskaar" actually, talk about sexism!).
And then there will be a vamp or villain (usually bollywood choses actors who are dark skinned- talk about racism!!) such as the girl's step-mother or some sisters-in-law who are not with that much "sanskaar" and might wear jeans and hence "immoral".
Obviously, I did not finish watching that movie. But...I suddenly realized,
If parents find our future "husbands" and "wives'" (like ready made food at a very good and decent restaurant where food is made of full desi ghee from a desi gaay) at a very young age, then what life will these poor souls would have seen??!!
I mean when will they see the real world?? Is life all about getting married have having kids??!!
I personally do not think so.. I feel I would like to experience the world from my own eyes. I even do not consider my parent's opinion on certain things and wish to experience it myself. If I am wrong in my judgement, then I will face the consequences myself :-)

Bhavanaji even I have seen this movie. I felt the artificial painting over every thing including artists. These days every serial artists wear party wear even in there daily life!
ReplyDeleteAs you wrote in end madam, life is a 'reality'. It may be a arranged or love marriage, the parents can't expect the married life of the couple.
Independent minds can carve there life.
welcome back on blog. Be writing.
Thanks Badariji :-)
ReplyDeletetrue.. sometimes even our parents can be mistaken. It is better to live your life and look back wistfully and then spend the rest of it wondering 'what if'
ReplyDeleteP.S. You just described 50% of all 90s Bollywood movies. In the other 50%, the hero would be wearing a white buniyan and flexing his biceps to impress her :)
When will we ever learn !
True, I agree with you for the other 50% of the scenario:-)
